James is Asthma and Lung UK Chair of Respiratory Research at the University of Dundee and a consultant respiratory physician. His clinical Interests are in difficult respiratory infections, particularly bronchiectasis. He established the Respiratory research group at the University of Dundee in 2012 to conduct translational research in bronchiectasis. He has published over 500 peer reviewed papers, leads several international phase 2 and phase 3 trials in bronchiectasis and has chaired 5 international guideline panels including the upcoming 2025 ERS bronchiectasis guidelines. He is chief editor of the ERJ.
